The Desert Museum was founded in 1952. It features plants and animals native to the Sonoran Desert. It is consistently one of the top things to see in Tucson and for good reason. There is so much to see no matter what time of the year it is. Michael has been visiting it and frequently a member since the early 80s.
The Sonoran Desert is located in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. So much of life is task oriented and making efficient use of each minute. One place to slow down to 3/4 time is when walking through parts of the Sonoran Desert. There is so much to see, but often best seen when slowed down. Of course, we have to slow it down when cactus thorns and rattlesnakes are the reminder to pay attention.
Spring is always a favorite because of budding trees, flowers, and warmer longer days. We needed to be in Tucson to have some minor repairs done to our RV. We enjoy visiting Tucson Mountain Park, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and Saguaro National Park West. Western Way RV Resort is very close to those sites and this had been our third stay here.
Saguaro National Park has been a favorite for many years. Late April to early May is usually a great time to visit because the snow birds have left, the cactus are blooming, and the temperatures are reasonable, except for this year. Typically, the average highs are in the low 80s. Currently, it’s been around 100 everyday, yikes. At least the early mornings have been in the 60s, great for hiking.
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is our favorite place to visit when in Tucson. Even though we were staying near Tombstone, we needed to go to Tucson about once a week for errands. Making a stop at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum became a routine. They also have a very good restaurant.
We stayed for a few weeks in western Tucson so that we could explore Saguaro National Park, Tucson Mountain Park, and the Arizona Desert Museum. We were also close to Freightliner and Freedom RV for service work.
