Amarillo, Texas was a 1,200 mile drive across central United States from Nappanee, Indiana. Our goal was to avoid active early spring storms, so we ended up driving longer distances than usual to avoid bad weather. We wanted to visit family in Amarillo, but because of the worsening COVID-19 pandemic and increasing restrictions, we decided against it considering that 20-80% of those infected have none to only mild symptoms making it difficult to know if we were infected. We will try again the next time we are in the area.

South Padre Island, Texas
South Padre Island, Texas is at the southern tip of the state. Our changes in latitudes brought us to 26 degrees north, which is about the same as West Palm Beach, Florida where my brother Jeff lives. We are further south of San Diego, CA which has a latitude of 32.7. Its that time of year when many are busy shopping and multicolored holiday lights are everywhere. We found a Christmas Tree made from recycled beach sandals.
Riviera, Texas
Riviera, Texas is by Baffin Bay, south of Corpus Christi. It was a 4 hour drive from Spring Branch. The landscape changed from live oak trees and hills to flat coastal topography with grassland and mesquite trees.

San Antonio, Texas
After spending a week in a remote region of Texas Hill Country, it was nice to stay in Spring Branch near San Antonio, Texas and enjoy the perks of a city….Costco, restaurants, shopping, and HEB.
Frio River, Texas
The Frio River is spring fed and has cool crystal clear water with a consistent flow. It is a popular summertime destination, particularly at Garner State Park.
Texas Hill Country
Texas Hill Country is where many of Texas’s best wineries are located. Its west of Austin and considered the beginning or end of the Southwest.
