Yosemite National Park anytime of the year, especially in the winter, is breathtaking. Our access was limited because of road closures and back to back winter storms. We were fortunate to get an hour of blue skies our entire stay.

Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks were a few hour drive from Paso Robles, California. We knew there would be limited access to both parks because it was winter. Fortunately, a few days of blue skies following a winter storm were just what we were hoping for. The General Sherman giant sequoia is the largest living tree on earth.

Paso Robles is a beautiful area consisting of rolling hills covered with grape vines and oak trees near the California coast. It had been our go to destination for a long weekend getaway when we lived in San Diego. From Temecula, it was a 5 hour drive.

Temecula was less than a 2 hour drive north from Santee Lakes. Over the last 25 years we had explored the numerous wineries in the Temecula area. Not only has the quality of the wine improved, but the number of visitors has increased tremendously. So have the tasting fees and price of their wines.

From Jacumba, California we headed west to Santee Lakes, which is east of San Diego, to visit Michael’s dad for Christmas and New Year’s. Santee had all the amenities including a Costco. After a couple of weeks in remote Jacumba, it was nice to have the luxuries of a large city again.
