Going to the Sun Road is the only road that traverses Glacier National Park from West Glacier to St. Mary, Montana. It crosses the Continental Divide at Logan Pass at an elevation of 6,646 feet. Construction on the road began in 1921 and it is about 50 miles long. It is one of the most scenic roads in America.

Choteau (show-toe) is a small city, with less than 2,000 people living here. Located in northwest central Montana, it is known for grain and cattle. Wheat, barley, chickpeas and lentils are grown here.

Red Lodge is in central southern Montana almost at the Wyoming border. Coal mining got a start here in 1884. Over the years, tourists replaced miners because of the very scenic Beartooth highway that links Red Lodge with the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

A flooded and closed Yellowstone is not what we expected for the 150-year anniversary. Spring snow melt followed by a couple of snow storms and a whole lot of rain led to record high water levels.

The Grand Loop Road is a 140-mile system that was built in 1915 to connect all the major features of Yellowstone National Park. To try and drive it in one day can take 4-7 hours depending on the wildlife on the road and traffic. From Fishing Bridge, it was about a 1.5 hour drive to West Yellowstone. We were last here in the fall of 2020.
