Granby is a town located about 14 miles southwest of Rocky Mountain National Park. Founded in 1904, it has been primarily prime cattle country. Now, it is a more affordable option to the nearby upscale communities of Grand Lake or Winter Park. From Steamboat Springs it was about a 1.5 hour drive to Granby.
Steamboat Springs is in northern Colorado near the Wyoming border and is a winter ski resort destination. It has produced an incredible number of Olympic athletes. There are natural hot springs in the area. Early trappers thought the hot springs made a chugging sound similar to a steamboat, hence the name. From Saratoga, Wyoming it was only about a 1.5 hour drive to Steamboat Springs.
Saratoga is in southern Wyoming, only about 40 minutes from Colorado. The North Platte River runs through it, which is a Blue Ribbon trout fishing location. For us, it was all about the moose. From Dubois, Wyoming to Saratoga is was about a 3.5 hour drive.
Dubois, Wyoming was about an hour drive from Moran, Wyoming. The town is mispronounced “due-boys” on purpose by the locals because they didn’t care for the man it was named after. Less than 1,000 people live here. The area attracts artists, writers, musicians, songwriters and photographers.
Grand Teton National Park is a favorite because the mountains are young and rugged and rise straight up out of the plains to 13,775 feet. It has grizzly’s, black bear, elk and bison like Yellowstone, but not the insane crowds.
Y Knot Winery is near the Snake River in the charming small town of Glenns Ferry, Idaho. Known for being one of the most treacherous river crossings of the Oregon Trail, it is now known for its winery, golf course, and thriving downtown. The city was established in 1871. It was about a 3.5 hour drive from McCall, ID to Glenns Ferry.
