Grand Oaks Resort is an RV park and an equestrian center located in Lady Lake, Florida, which is just southeast of Ocala near The Villages. We stayed at this RV park before and really enjoyed it, so we returned for a week. From Ormond Beach it was only about a 1.5 hour drive to Grand Oaks.
Grand Oaks RV Park
The theme is all about horses.
We had a pull through site that had full service. Their WIFI was marginal during an equestrian event that lasted for a few days, then it was fast enough to stream after all the competitors left. Unfortunately, they moved our site from a nice end back in site to this one, but the site was large and quiet.
The equestrian event while we were there was combined driving. It was fun to watch the single, double and four horse buggies in dressage, cross country, and obstacle driving.
The single horse carriages were quick and agile, but the four horse were impressive because of the coordination and power.
Jake loves visiting the horses, and they seem to like him too. These two greeted him every morning and would walk with him along their fence line. They didn’t know what to make of him kissing their noses.
Grand Oaks had ample areas to explore. It’s a large property. We usually walked for about an hour each day.
We went to their restaurant/bistro a couple of times. Good food and prices, friendly staff and live music.
Their dog park was huge.
The Villages
It’s a large adult retirement community in central Florida. There are numerous housing neighborhoods, roads just for golf carts, shopping, and plenty of bars and restaurants. There’s always live music playing.
We had a delicious lunch at Redsauce. It was amazing to get a draft beer for only $2. We noticed that the restaurant prices in the area were considerably lower than the rest of the country. Maybe it’s because it’s such a massive retirement area. The low cost seemed to keep the restaurants packed and customers happy. Such a novel idea.
The horses are beautiful and seemed to each have their own personality.
