Heber City is at about 5,600 feet elevation and located in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah. Considering we just came from sea level, it took a day to adjust. Fall colors were just starting.
Beaver, Utah
Our first stop from San Diego was Las Vegas for an overnight stay at Oasis RV. The next day we drove to Beaver and stayed at a KOA, which had all the necessities. The drive was gorgeous through the Nevada and Arizona deserts.
The Creamery was a nice stop after a couple of days on the road. They have a deep rooted history of dairy products in Beaver. We enjoyed their ice cream and purchased a couple of their cheeses, gouda and a green onion jack.
Unfortunately, while at a Pilot filling up with diesel, Sandy blew out her flip flop and hit the ground on all fours, scraping her knees. Margaritas were the drink of the evening.
Heber City, Utah
It was so nice to be in the mountains again. The Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon were stunning.
Heber City is in a valley and was first settled in 1859. It is surrounded by three large reservoirs. Numerous ski areas, that we had visited over the years, are within 30 minutes of Heber City.
We drove the Big Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Byway. The trees were just showing some fall colors.
Sundance Mountain Resort, Heber City
The ski resort is located in a beautiful area about 40 minutes from Heber City. About 25 years ago we were engaged here while skiing. It wasn’t easy hiding champagne and chocolates without falling while skiing all day. Michael claims he post-holed while eating lunch in the snow and Sandy saw it as kneeling and said “I will”. It was a treat to return after all these years.
Mountain Valley RV Resort, Heber City, Utah
We enjoyed our stay here surrounded by mountains. They had full service, large sites, a huge dog park, an adult only pool/spa/gym, and very good internet. We would definitely stay here again.
Thayne, Wyoming
We stayed at the Wolf Den RV park. They had large gravel sites with full hookups and good internet. There wasn’t much to do in Thayne, but there were many areas to explore nearby. Thayne is in Star Valley and close to the Salt River. The valley is surrounded by ranches, aspen and pine.
South of Thayne is Afton, Wyoming. They are known for having the worlds largest elk antler arch. Over 3,000 antlers were woven to produce the arch.
Near Afton is Periodic Spring. It is the largest rhythmic spring in the world. A cavern fills up with water, which is siphoned off until all the water is sucked out of the cavern breaking the siphon, then the cycle repeats itself. The result is a creek that flows on and off.
The hike was easy and scenic. Jake was allowed on the trail and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We think he is part billy goat.
Janee Falls are also in the Swift Creek canyon in Star Valley.
Jackson, Wyoming
We drove north to Jackson along the snake river. Absolutely beautiful. Jackson is a small town known for its ski areas, art, recreation, food, shopping and entertainment. It is located near Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
We went to the National Museum of Wildlife Art. They had a nice collection of paintings and sculptures with some history of Jackson Hole.
We enjoyed lunch at their restaurant. Sandy enjoyed the bison gyro. This was the first time since March that we had indoor dining. Because of Covid 19, diners were seated at every other table. Masks were worn by everyone except while eating.
