Motorhome life has its unique challenges and rewards. Overall, we prefer wide open spaces and avoid crowds whenever possible, so our social distancing was already in place. Having medical backgrounds, we daily practice infection precautions irregardless of COVID-19. Nevertheless, short of wearing a hazmat suit, it’s difficult to avoid exposure during a pandemic since supplies always need replenishment and we only have so much storage room. Trips to the grocery store and motorhome repairs are unavoidable.
Hoover, Alabama Motorhome Layover
Six months ago we made a service appointment at the Newmar factory in Nappanee, Indiana. We would have preferred not to travel to Indiana during late winter, but because we planned to head west again, and we needed the motorhome worked on, it was our best opportunity to go to Indiana. From Orange Beach, Alabama we headed north to Hoover, Alabama for an overnight. Full service and great wifi.
Nashville, Tennessee
There is so much to see and do in Nashville because of it’s music history and amazing restaurants. Unfortunately, we were unable to experience them. We also wanted to visit friends in the Nashville area, but because of COVID-19, we decided to wait until next time.
Natchez Trace Parkway, National Park Service
The Natchez Trace Parkway is 444 miles long and goes from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee. The daffodils were just starting to bloom.
Some of the trees were in bloom, teasing that spring flowers will be coming.
One of the American Bison’s migratory routes was between the Mississippi River and the Cumberland Plateau. Native Indians would follow the “traces” made by the bison since the route was along the high ground which provided greater visibility and shorter distances.
Safe Harbor Motorhome Resort, Nashville, Tennessee
We stayed at Safe Harbor RV Resort, just east of downtown Nashville. We had full service, good wifi, and nice views of Percy Priest Lake.
Unfortunately, winter storms severely limited outdoor activities. At the time, social distancing was recommended, but some businesses were still open.
Madame Tussauds
Madame Tussauds is a wax museum that originated in London, England. Smaller museums are located in Asia, Europe, Australia and the United States including Nashville.
We went as soon as they opened to avoid contact with other people.
Fortunately, no one else was there giving us free range to take photos.
The best part is that Madame Tussauds encourages photos and sometimes there are props for posing.
Marie Tussard was born in 1761 in France. As a child she learned wax modeling from a physician. She eventually opened a gallery in London, which has continued to grow ever since.
We had a lot of fun, in a socially isolated time, before the shutdown of nonessential businesses. Happy St. Patricks Day!
