Yakima was a scenic drive past Mt Rainier from Kent, Washington. We were looking forward to the fabulous Washington wine country from Yakima to Walla Walla before heading east.
Yakima
We stayed at the Suntides RV Park. A full service RV park on a golf course. It was a nice small park with mostly long term sites. The city of Yakima forces them to have a few short term rentals, so we took advantage of that for a few nights.
The wine tasting opportunities were limited compared to Walla Walla, but good none-the-less.
At Kana winery in Yakima we really enjoyed talking to our server. She has a bohemian free spirit. She spends her time teaching painting or working in the tasting room enjoying wine. Her last job was working as a belly dancer in Egypt.
Yakima River Canyon
The Yakima River Canyon never came up in our internet searches for things to see and do in the area. It was the owner of the Kennewick RV park who suggested we drive the canyon. What a treat!
Not only was it a beautiful canyon from Yakima to Ellensburg, but there were Bald Eagle, Osprey, and Bighorn Sheep.
The Yakima River is a blue ribbon catch and release fly fishing destination. Not only were there plenty of fly fishermen, but more people floating down the river on inner tubes cooling off from the intense heat.
We had lunch overlooking the Yakima River at Red’s Fly Shop.
Kennewick, Washington
Kennewick is part of Tri Cities, Washington. We stayed at the Columbia Sun RV Resort. It had full service, decent wifi, and good views of the southern skies for satellite. Their clubhouse was very nice but overrun by little league baseball players. We met with Michael’s sister, Terri who was on her way to visit family. Unfortunately, Sandy had a cold, so our activities were limited.
Walla Walla, Washington
We stayed at the Blue Valley RV Park in Walla Walla. They had full service with decent wifi and satellite views. Unfortunately, it was in the high 90’s severely limiting outdoor activities or wine tasting. Sandy took the opportunity to paint outside.
Because of the heat and Sandy having a cold, we limited our wine tasting to the dowtown Walla Walla winery tasting rooms. Overall, the wines were good and tasting fees reasonable. However, the bottle prices were high and not consistent with the quality of wine. Maybe better at the rural tasting rooms.
