Prescott, Arizona is located in the north central part of the state. It was once the capital of the Arizona Territory. At about 5400 feet elevation, the weather was cooler than Tucson. We stayed near Lake Watson and enjoyed the hiking trail along the lake.
Point of Rocks
The campground is located amongst large granite boulders and a lot of trees. We arrived late because of last minute repairs done to the RV in Tucson, so we had a little bit of difficulty in the dark trying to find our site and back in, but it went well. 50 amp electric, 45 psi water pressure, sewer, and decent internet. Point of Rocks biggest advantage was the hiking trail to Watson Lake.
Prescott, Arizona
Whisky Row has numerous historic buildings, restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and saloons. Every Saturday, some of the locals enjoy dressing up in period western outfits.
Meadery
Mead is fermented honey. Water and various fruits, spices, grains, or hops may be added for flavor. It may be the oldest alcoholic beverage made. The Greeks referred to it as “nectar of the gods”. It was too sweet for our palate but we enjoyed sampling their numerous concoctions paired with a delicious panini.
Jerome, Arizona
The drive from Prescott to Jerome on 89A was stunning. We drove higher and higher from flat plains to gorgeous pine forest. It overlooks the Verde Valley. Jerome was a rich copper mining town that eventually became a ghost town when its population fell below 100. It re-invented itself in tourism with numerous art galleries, restaurants, coffee houses and wine tasting. It reminded us of Bisbee. Madame Jennie Bauters came to Jerome from Belgium in 1896. Her Brothel was known as Jennie’s Place. She was reputed to be the wealthiest woman in the Arizona Territory. Jennie was murdered by her ex-lover in 1905. She grew tired of financially supporting him. He shot her 3 times, went back to the saloon, reloaded and shot her again. He was hanged.
Verde Valley
The Verde River runs through it. Its one of the last free flowing rivers in Arizona. The Verde River provides water for irrigation and clean drinking water to Phoenix. There are numerous wineries in the area. Some grow there own grapes in the Verde Valley, others get them from Willcox.

Wow! That first shot is gorgeous! Looks like you’re having fun with the locals. Best to stay away from the brothels 😉
