We enjoyed all the cat sculptures in downtown Catskill.
Catskill was a great location to catch up on tasks. Not too many distractions, good internet, and a spa for those aches and pains!
Our RV site at Juniper Woods was not level, 50 amp, no internet, and good water pressure. We enjoyed meeting new friends around the pool and spa. Their library had a healthly book exchange, a few DVD’s to borrow, a pool table, and cable TV.
Lake George
It is a large, long, and narrow lake at the southern end of the Adirondack Mountains. Lake George drains into Lake Champlain. It is a tourist destination. There are numerous restaurants, bars, amusement parks, miniature golf, and souvenir shops.
We took the opportunity to take a one hour boat cruise on the lake. There was so much history about the mansions that surround it. Nothing like a cold drink and entertaining narration by the captain while cruising on the water.
Adirondack Winery
Adirondack Winery has 2 tasting rooms in the Lake George area. We enjoyed their reds. Even though they use local grapes, have a low alcohol of about 12%, and are light bodied, their Merlot and Meritage Winemakers Reserve were good.
Catskill
Catskill is a transliteration of “Kaatskil,” meaning “Kaat’s Creek,” a name given by the Dutch who settled here in the 1600s. It was fun walking down main street and looking at all the cat sculptures. The cats are a fundraising project. They are made from fiberglass by local artists who adorn them. They are displayed during the summer, then auctioned to raise money for local charities.
